Overlooking the heart of Santa Barbara’s quaint shops and restaurant-lined Carrillo Street, the yellow Canary Hotel sings with ambience. The six-story property, named for Spain’s Canary Islands, is one of the tallest in the area, built before the town put height restrictions in place. With its height comes its best feature: a rooftop pool and lounge affording guests beautiful views of Santa Barbara, the mountains and the ocean.
One of the most luxurious of the Kimpton brand hotels, the Canary’s ornate furnishings include four-poster beds in guestrooms and suites, Spanish tile bathrooms and patterned furnishings in vibrant colors. Families enjoy the hotel’s restaurant, Finch and Fork, an award-winning local favorite, in addition to numerous restaurants within steps of the hotel. Families can also hop on one of the free bicycles available to guests and be on Santa Barbara’s beach in minutes. The Canary’s location makes it ideal for Santa Barbara city or beach vacations.

I stayed at Canary Kimpton for a week as I attended a conference. Front desk was professional and gave me all the important information during check in. Wifi was easy to access and worked great throughout my stay.
The room decor was very nice and not your typical hotel room.
The restaurant served great food.
And most stunning of all is the must see roof top
It was my first visit to Santa Barbara and this centrally located hotel was a perfect place to stay
I waited 7 hours at the Santa Barbara airport for my Alaska flight which was eventually cancelled due to engine problems. I now had to find a hotel to stay in as Alaska booked me for the same flight the next day! There were extremely long lines to wait in to get rebooked and then other lines to wait in to get your bag and a hotel voucher! After waiting all day, I was not going to wait in any more lines so proceeded to the Kimpton Canary hotel (thought it was the only Kimpton hotel in the area) as someone told me Alaska had an arrangement with them. Took an Uber downtown the this beautiful property and was excited until I was told they had NO Availability because of some big conventions in town! So here I was tired and distraught with my large suitcase and not knowing what to do! Helen, the front desk attendant, could see my frustration and so she said she would call their sister property in Goleta (GOODland Kimpton) to see if they had any rooms! She was on hold for at least 15 minutes but finally got through and found they did have one and she had them hold it for me! I tried to contact Uber on my phone for my second ride of the afternoon but couldn't get a good signal (T Mobile) and was quite upset so Helen asked to see my phone and connected it to their wifi and said she would get me connected to Uber. In the meantime, she told me to relax and got me a glass of cabernet! I was almost in tears at the kindness she bestowed upon me! I enjoyed my wine and contacted Uber and did make it to the Goodland (not nearly as nice as the Canary)! I didn't get to stay there, but the property is beautiful, perfectly located in town among dining and shopping but the employees are second to none! The Customer Service is absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! You will be treated like ROYALTY at the Canary and we will stay there next time we're in Santa Barbara after making reservations in advance!!
The Canary's rooftop swimming pool is worth a dip, but it also serves as a social spot for hotel guests. A lounge area features activities, games, movie nights and social gatherings, all with a view. The pool is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The hotel offers complimentary bike rentals on a first-come, first-served basis.
Santa Barbara's East Beach is just 1 mile from the hotel. Within minutes, guests can access other great beaches and parks, including Hendry's Beach, Butterfly Beach, Leadbetter Beach and the seaside Chase Palm Park. A bike path runs along the coastline, providing a safe and expansive area to bike with kids. Bike rentals and surreys are also available on the beach.
Kimpton Kids Program
Upon arrival, kids are welcomed with a gift and are offered fun, thoughtful amenities. Request a pet goldfish for your room, and grab hula hoops for fitness fun. Ask for a crib, playard or safety kit for your guestroom.
Finch and Fork

A bar menu is available in the afternoon, and brunch is available on weekends.
In the warmer months, the hotel's rooftop poolside café serves food from Finch and Fork. Known as the Perch, guests can enjoy lunch, snacks and evening bites daily from June through September, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Off-season, the lounge is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
