I spent the weekend after Hurricane Florence, and wasn't sure what to expect. Although Virginia was spared the worst, mandatory evacuation had been ordered for the coast. The beach was still there, with no notable erosion. I received a warm welcome at reception. Everyone on staff was friendly, accommodating, and went out of the way to meet any request.
This is an older independent hotel. If you're looking for a place with marble floors, plush carpet, and designer furnishings, the Capes isn't for you. But if you want a clean room with a comfortable bed and a balcony With an ocean view at a reasonable rate, this is your kind of place. Every room has an ocean view, refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker. You do have to bring your own coffee and filters, cups, plates, and silverware. There's a 7-11 in walking distance and a grocery
store about a 10 minute drive away. There's a small heated indoor pool which is great in case it rains when you're there. The Capes has a small restaurant with an outdoor patio; for $9.00 I got a great breakfast with 2 eggs, bacon, toast, and grits. Fried potatoes are available if you're not a fan of grits.
There were a few things that could have been better. The bathroom was tiny; but there was plenty of hot water with good water pressure. The hotel has only one elevator, which could be a hassle if you stay during the busy summer months.
The hotel has washers and dryers on one floor and a variety of vending machines on two floors. The small inconveniences were more than offset by the price, which was $50-200 less per night than other hotels on the boardwalk with the same amenities. It was a great weekend stay for some R & R, and I will definitely stay there again.
Rooms aren't cleaned properly !! Corridors have strange awful smell. The 2nd car fee is a big rip off ..shop around you'll find better. Didn't go into pool...didn't look to inviting !! Beds are twin size...extremely small. Not recommended for 2 Adults.
I expected much more for the money we paid.
