The Grand Bahia Principe Coba rolls out the red carpet for families at this all-inclusive Cancun resort. For instance, the property has special family suites that provide the space and privacy parents desire, plus a number of amenities the kids will love (think kids’ welcome gift and basket of sweets and kids’ mini bar with milkshakes and soft drinks). Then there’s the kids’ water park complete with waterslides, themed swimming pools and enough water features to ensure you get soaked. Kids also will love the activities found at Bahia Scouts, the property’s mini kids’ club. Of course, there’s also the beach, two more swimming pools, a golf course, an opportunity to swim with dolphins, and a spa, not to mention nine restaurants and eight bars.

The hostess never smiled. The server brought water. Never asked us for drinks or wine. Never refilled the empty water glasses. The appetizers and desserts were not labeled. The server apologized for the poor service by telling us he had a big group. After we finished our starters, we waited 30 min for our mains. He put down the plates and told me to watch the pepper. He never checked back with us. He did not get a tip.
Room clean when arrived. Plugs hanging off he walls. Some plugs unable to stay in sockets. Cleaning was done daily but doubt they ever swept the floor. Safe was secure. Plenty of space for clothes.
Pools large enough, plenty of beds and music by one of the pools. If you want shade, get there early. Found it strange there was no by pool side service. One bar tender for both ground and pool bar so he was constantly running between both, so expect queues.
Buffet is well stocked and plenty of choice. All a good quality. Shame about the staff. If you want a drink, be prepared to wait up to 15 minutes.
La Gourmet - the absolute highlight of the trip. Fantastic service, menu choices and interior. We ended up going twice.
Brazilian, Italian and Japanese were also good although service wasn’t as high a standard.
Entertainment is fine for the tone deaf and repeated weekly.
Main complaint - weekends are a nightmare. Expect plates full of half eaten food around the pool as well as floating drinks. Queues for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. And watch your belongings, including the hotel towels around the pool.
