We signed up for the tour ahead of time and arrived with plenty of time to look around the store and outbuildings near where the tour started. The tour of the camp was wonderful. Our guide, a young man, gave us so much good history of William Durant and the Vanderbilt's. My only compliant of the day was our guide did not wait for the slow walkers to begin his dialogue as we moved from building to building. We had my mother along with us and she has a hard time walking so we were a bit slower than the other. All in all, it was worth the trip and admission price. I would love to go back and stay there.
Two hours of non-stop verbal diarrhoea was too much for us, our guide overflowing with mostly irrelevant facts and totally failing to engage with the group. The many rustic buildings are all well maintained and record the quirks of the period rather well, however.
Not recommended unless you’re particularly hard up for something to do. Go somewhere nice for a quiet walk instead.
