Unbelievably Noisy

by imlay

My room at the Inn at Creek Street was a small and dated with an equally small private bath. It was clean and the staff was friendly, but the noise from the street was ridiculous. Seriously, we could have slept in the middle of the street and not had it be any noisier. Our first night we slept with earplugs in and the windows open as the July temperatures kept our non-air conditioned room very warm. Even with ear plugs the noise was unbearable. On top of that, each morning of our four night stay featured a 6 A.M. trash dumpster pick up out of our south facing window. The staff did come in and add a portable A/C unit, but that created its own noise problem. At least the room was cool. The bed is literally 15 feet from traffic on the main drag through town. Being that they were booked they couldn't move us off the street. The shower featured constant temperature fluctuations, but good pressure.

Look elsewhere unless you are assured of a room not on Stedman Street.

Amazing hospitality

My husband and I stayed in the New York Hotel, part of the Inn on Creek Street, as part of our honeymoon tour of Alaska. When we reached Ketchikan, we had already visited 6 other towns in Alaska, and Ketchikan was to be the last Alaska stop on our tour. The staff at the hotel, and the town itself were the most welcoming, and probably one of the highlights of our trip. We were collected from the ferry and dropped off at the airport when we left, and the two female staff (I’ve forgotten their names, sorry!) went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They even dropped us off at the Deer Mountain trailhead so that we could start hiking straight away, and lent us bear spray in case we encountered any bears. If you like hiking, I’d thoroughly recommend the Deer Mountain trail- it’s challenging but so beautiful.

Overall, if we ever return to Ketchikan, we would most certainly stay at the Inn on Creek Street again. Thank you all for your hospitality!
