Reviews

Very satisfactory accomodation in a great location

by Gmil420

I went for a weekly stay in order to meet family, without great expectations and a bit worried from some reviews.
I found this week quite enjoyable in spite of a few shortcoming in maintenance. The hotel seems to work through a slow reno and there are a number of details that can be improved. Still I would go again as I enjoyed the great location by the sea ( although the sargassos spoil the beach) and one of the greatest pool I have ever seen.
The ground level rooms with the pool view are great for the view and the covered patio provides shade and shelter from the occasional rain . The rooms are spacious with a suite. The bathrooms are not all 100% but with 2 of them its OK.. with a small fridge and wifi, patio doors and well manicured grounds, the pool is meters away.
Daily room service is fine although a bit parsimonious on supplies but satisfactory. There is plenty of hot water and good air conditioning in both rooms
Breakfast is plentiful and staff renews continuously the supply of a buffet
I found all the staff very helpful and friendly. They also arranged airport transportation for 70 Euros which I appreciated given the heavy traffic and cost of car rental.
The location close to the marina affords dozens of restaurants of all styles and costs as well as grocery stores and shops.

A very pleasant stay

by Alan P

Ok. I will get the 'negatives' out of the way first. The hotel is a little 'tired' and in some parts in need of updating and the four star rating is questionable, but my wife and I really enjoyed our stay here.

We don't usually do hotels, preferring to self-cater and the price we paid was similar to small apartments we have rented elsewhere.

Our beach-front suite comprised a spacious bedroom with a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom with hexagonal bath, a separate shower and WC and a large sitting room, with verandah leading onto the small private beach. It was freshly painted in white, felt homely and a little rustic. Air conditioning was efficient if a little noisy.

The apartment was cleaned, bed linen and towels changed every day.

As expected, there was only breakfast served at La Cocoteraie, but there was a good range of options.

There are plenty of places to eat just five minutes walk away at the Marina, so the lack of a restaurant on site was not a problem.

We had no problems with cockroaches as mentioned in another review, just a few visiting mosquitoes. The geckos who came inside were rather talkative!

There have been criticisms posted that English isn't spoken at this hotel. The staff we met over our two week stay all responded to my schoolboy French in English. The only people we met who did not speak English were the cook and maid. Note that Guadeloupe is technically part of France and English speaking tourists are the exception, so get your phrase book out and remember you are not in England or America!

Just a suggestion for the management.

Please put a kettle, cups and some cutlery in the room. It's nice to make a coffee in the morning! A bottle opener/corkscrew would be good also, since your bar is closed and we had to bring our wine back from the supermarket!

All together though, a nice, relaxing place to stay, just don't expect The Hilton!

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
Babysitting
Babysitting can be arranged through the resort for an additional fee.

Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is complimentary.

The Art of Smart Timing
Guadeloupe is an island of France and as such, many of its visitors come from French-speaking nations. For the best rates, compare European school vacation schedules (including summer) with American school vacation schedules to see when Europeans may not be visiting. The winter holidays are peak season on the island.

Getting There
This private resort is located at the tip of the island's Grande Terre, about 40 minutes from the airport, but longer during commute times. It does not provide shuttle service from the hotel and guests will need to arrange for a taxi (around 70 Euro) or rent a car. The hotel provides parking at no additional charge.

Getting Around
Once at the resort, guests can walk to the marina of Saint Francois to enjoy the small town's restaurants, shops, straw markets and casino. To explore the island, guests will need to rent a car or join with an excursion group, the latter of which the hotel can help you to arrange.

For Mom and Dad
Massage services can be provided in-room for an additional fee.
