Mixed feelings about this hotel

by sswm

We stayed here for 4 nights after spending time in Deshaies area.

We had booked a room which I thought would be like the sea view bungalow they show on the website, it has exquisite views from a large terrace with sun chairs. I paid for a sea view bungalow instead of a partial sea view one.

When we arrived the woman said we were being upgraded to a suite. I should have asked to see both the rooms before accepting this “upgrade”

The suite 38 was 2 levels with the living area on the bottom and a bedroom with just a bed and a small deck with 2 chairs on the upper level

There was no view whatsoever from the living room /kitchen area. It was at the lowest level of a sloping hill and all you could see was shrubbery. The upper level with the bed did have a small view but we spent the majority of our time in the living area below. Very disappointing. After a day I asked if we could move to pretty much any of the other suites for a sea view or even back to our original sea view bungalow I paid for . We were offered to move for the last 2 nights only which we appreciated but in hind sight I wish we could have just had our sea view bungalow to begin with, especially since it was a 10 minute walk uphill away from the main resort to get to the “ suites”

The last night there was a wedding so the restaurant was shut down. We wandered around in our car but got stuck in a huge traffic jam for a funeral procession so we ended up just finding a small grocery story for a package of soup crackers and tins of fish. I feel for the price we paid they should offer some compensation for no dinner offered on that night. We pretty much stayed in our room as the wedding took up the entire hotel property.

One other issue we had was we ate at the hotel one night and they brought a complementary appetizer that consisted of melon purée, and a few small globs of this unknown white stuff that we both practically spit out. It tasted salty and fishy and we could not believe it was in the little cup. It was terrible. When we asked the server he said something like cream but it was not cream by any stretch of the imagination. We hoped that what was in there was not “ pay back” for asking to move to a different suite. Honestly in our 40 years of travel to 120 countries and countless 5 star resorts all over the world we have never had something like this happen. It was disturbing to say the least to think we may have eaten bird droppings. We hope this was not the case but we both couldn’t think of anything else that would taste salty and fishy in a melon purée.

Birds were a problem at breakfast as the second you turned your head or got up to get food from the buffet they would land on your food.

The beach was nice but a hike for some people to get up and down the steep road to it. It didn’t bother us as we liked the exercise

The views from the bar area and lovely sitting area are stunning. We enjoyed sitting and watching the water. The ambiance by the pool and bar at night is very romantic.

The breakfasts were very good we enjoyed the smoked fish, Eggs to order, fruit, breads, meats, cheeses, homemade jams, fresh juices. And amazing lattes and expresso drinks.

The infinity pool was wonderful to watch sunsets from.

We swam over to club med a couple times for a change of scenery and exercise

The staff is helpful and kind, especially the tour desk woman who was friendly and knowledgeable

The beach staff also was very nice and attentive. The fish burgers are really good.

We recommend this resort but be sure and look at your suite or room first to avoid disappointment as the views are very different from each of them
