Gulf-front on beautiful Sanibel Island and about 40 minutes from the Southwest Florida International Airport, Mitchell’s Sandcastles is a quirky little Florida resort with lots to love. The rooms range in size and can easily accommodate more than five people.
Bedrooms are either completely separated or partitioned off from living spaces for privacy, and most suites have full kitchens so you can do lots of your cooking in. Amenities families appreciate include the free hot breakfast, free bikes (and helmets), free kayaks and beach chairs and umbrellas. Borrow tennis racquets for a frame on the onsite courts or work out in the fitness room. There are coin-operated laundry machines for guests to use. The hotel is pet-friendly.

We truly enjoy Mitchell’s every season, escaping the Wisconsin winters at their peak. We usually book 3 cabins and the consistency of the staff is very evident. We have two groups with young children and the staff treats them extremely well. The cabins are always clean, and we never have a single issue getting what we need to be comfortable. The beach is pristine. You have grills at each cabin to utilize and the kitchens are stocked with what you would need to make meals. Grocery delivery is available to Mitchell’s so you don’t have to waste time shopping for essentials when you arrive.
If you are a sheller, as nearly everyone visiting Sanibel is, Mitchell’s is farther down West Gulf Dr. so you’re away from most of the other resorts. There’s less traffic from other transient guests so there seems to be less foot traffic at high traffic times (low tide).
Mitchell’s is a special place for our family. Our kids learned to swim in Joel’s pools. We look forward to it each and every year, booking our next trip before we leave each season.

I’ve stayed at Mitchell’s numerous times and never once has there been anything to find fault with. The rooms are spotless, staff is friendly and helpful, the landscaping is gorgeous, there are free kayaks and bikes to use and most importantly - the beach is as beautiful as it gets. Even if there were a Hyatt or a Hilton on the island, Mitchell’s would still be the best place to stay.
