Overview

Sometimes you just want to get away from it all. For a family vacation in Homer, the Moose Creek Cabins are just the place to do that. These accommodations are as far off the beaten path as you can get and still have easy access to modern amenities. For a large family, the Log Chalet is perfect for that secluded wilderness feeling. Nestled in the woods at the end of a path away from other buildings, the Chalet can sleep up to five people on a queen bed, day bed and queen futon. It also includes a full kitchen, living room with wood burning stove, TV/VCR and a large deck with gas grill. Once you settle in, you won’t want to leave — unless it’s to walk over to the outdoor hot tub or wood-fired sauna. The owners stock the kitchen with a continental breakfast of fruit, cereal, bagels and more each morning.

Your cabin really is secluded, but not by much. It’s a 15-mile drive into Homer, if you do feel the need to get out and about. Park downtown and you can walk to many restaurants, shops and museums. Kids will want to play on Bishop’s Beach and walk the nature trail through the wetlands to the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. It’s not far to the Pratt Museum, which covers the natural history of the area. Exploring even further, drive out to the harbor for a fishing trip on Kachemak Bay. Homer is the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World, so this is a good place to catch dinner before heading back to your cabin to grill it up. If you’re looking for rest and relaxation, plus a taste of the wilderness, Moose Creek Cabins is where you want to spend part of your family vacation in Alaska.

Great Experience

by Martha and Jim F

Very cute and quite cabin. Just the thing we were looking for. Host and Hostess were very helpful and gave us great things to do while we were in Homer. Even gave us a breakfast basket that was very nice.

Best place we stayed at in Alaska

by Scott B

On our 10 day trip of Alaska this was by far our favorite place we stayed at. Ed and Sheryl were very accommodating and friendly. We splurged and stayed in the Log Chalet for two nights. It was all you could really ask for with a huge area of lounging around, a separate bathroom, a fireplace, and a sleeping area on the 2nd "floor". There is also a grill and some outside seating with a pretty good view of Kachemak Bay and the glaciers on the other side. There is an old school sauna nearby and also a very clean and comfortable hot tub. We never ended up using the sauna, but we did enjoy the hot tub. Our hosts had left us a basket of lots of assorted food, including granola, nuts, fruit, bagels, and some fresh baked breakfast bread that was perfect before our early morning halibut charter.

Only negatives (which aren't even really negatives) were the water pressure in the shower in the Log Chalet is a bit low (but definitely workable) and also if you plan on doing any cooking yourself, while there are plenty of bowls, plates, and cooking utensils (even some olive oil!) the knives are all very dull and I ended up using my pocket knife for a lot of our food prep. I used to work as a cook, however, and am spoiled by my normal access to very sharp knives.

Also note that this property is about a 15 minute drive east from "downtown" Homer. It was a bit further than I was expecting. I knew it was out of town, I just didn't realize quite how far. We also ran into construction on the road between the two which delayed us by about 20 minutes one morning (this seems to be a common occurrence all over Alaska in the summer, so plan accordingly).

Definitely would stay here again next time we are in Homer.
