Beautiful Hotel; Somewhat Understaffed

by drosen85

First of all, this is a totally awesome hotel, and you should have no hesitation to stay -- in fact to go out of your way to stay at the Penha Longa Resort. The property is stunning, the rooms beautiful and the pool fantastic.

The price is incredible for such a wonderful property -- especially in Portugal where the prices seem to be going up and up with such a spike in popularity.

We had two wonderful days at the hotel, enjoyed the pool, great dining poolside and the complementary breakfast. The hotel also was easy access to the incredible historic sites in Sintra. Ubers are really inexpensive -- like having your own private car service to take you anywhere you want to go.

Only criticism is we stayed in a somewhat low-season, midweek (Sunday and Monday evening in September), so the resort was very quiet -- and I think they manage their costs to match their guest occupancy accordingly. As a result, most of the restaurants were closed and even getting the basics from housekeeping was a major inconvenience. While every member of the staff was super attentive and really focused on hospitality, there just were not enough of them -- and based on other stays at Ritz Carltons, a bit out of character for the brand standards.

With that said, would not hesitate to return and have already recommended to many friends for their stays in the Lisbon area.

Great Gym!

I was there only for 2 days but enjoyed a great location, great hospitality, very friendly and helpful staff, and a wonderfully equipped gym. Rooms are generous, some parts a bit worn, but that is what time does.
