Cruising adds up, but there are ways to reduce the sticker shock. If you’re cruising out of Port Canaveral in Florida, staying at the Quality Inn & Suites Cocoa Beach (formerly the Comfort Inn & Suites Port Canaveral) the night before your ship sails is one way to do that. Designed for cost savings, this property offers one smart stay for the cruiser keeping a serious eye on the budget.

An older property that sits just minutes from the beach, the Quality Inn & Suites delivers rooms and suites with kitchenettes. The pool— surrounded by lush, tropical-like foliage—is heated and large enough for the kids to romp around and burn off travel-weary steam. And the beach—sitting an easy four-minute walk from the hotel—delivers hours of mild surf and sandy excitement.

The Quality Inn can’t brag about an ultra-close location to Port Canaveral, which is actually beautiful news for those who want to save. Thanks to the (mere) 10-minute drive from the property to Port Canaveral, the room cost is considerably friendlier than those closer to port.

But here’s what the Quality Inn can brag about (besides being ridiculously close to the beach): it offers two super packages that are all about making your vacation easier. If you fly into Orlando International, the Fly, Snooze & Cruise package shuttles you from the airport to the property and back again when your trip concludes. Driving in? Then you want Quality Inn’s Cruise & Park package that lets you park your car for the length of your voyage on its lot and catch a shuttle to (and from) Port Canaveral prior to your cruise departure.

The third building towers to the sixth floor giving the upper floors spectacular ocean view rooms.

Each of the 170 rooms and suites are exterior access rooms that include an in-room safe, flat-screen TV, hair dryer, coffee service, iron and ironing board, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have a granite counter with a single basin. While most tubs are a tub/shower combo, some rooms come only with a walk-in shower.

Standard Rooms
Standard rooms are located on one of the two shorter buildings and features two queen beds. The standard can also be combined with a deluxe standard efficiency unit, creating a suite that sleeps eight. The standard rooms do not have a mini-fridge or microwave.

Good for a one night stay before a cruise

by travelingman979

Stayed here for one night prior to taking off on a cruise the next day.

The good:
1) Staff was very friendly
2) Breakfast was plentiful and in a very large space (looked like an unused conference room).
3) Beach access within a block
4) the room was clean and reasonably well maintained for a beach town property
5) The hotel is close to many "town" amenities like grocery stores, department stores and restaurants which are convenient when you need food, seasickness pills and extra diapers before getting on a ship
The not so good :
1) The pool was under renovation and while they had made arrangements for guests to use the pool at the hotel next door and a gym down the street it is really not nearly as easy for a family to use a pool in this fashion.
2) The room was too small for 2 queen beds and as a result the person on the bed closest to the AC unit spent the night getting blasted by the air all night which isn't very pleasant.

Overall, it is a solid choice for a pre-cruise hotel but I'd imagine it wouldn't be the best for a longer term stay.

Family Activities

Sitting an easy four-minute walk to the ocean is a beautiful sandy beach. Just cross a picturesque rustic bridge and dig your toes into the sand. Mild waves are ideal for the little guys.

The pool area is just made for kids and has a shuffleboard, a volleyball court, and a climbing structure perfect for the smaller set.

Pool and Whirlpool
The spacious heated pool sits in the middle of the three Quality Inn buildings with the whirlpool sitting nearby.

Family Dining

Complimentary Breakfast Buffet
The large morning breakfast includes make-your-own waffles, hot scrambled eggs, breakfast meat, yogurt, cereal, bagels, pastries, toast, whole seasonal fruit, juices, coffee, and more. The dining room is spacious, but word to the wise: breakfasts at the Quality Inn get busy, especially on Saturdays. Don't run into the breakfast room at the last minute hoping to grab a bite and a cup of coffee. Give yourself plenty of time to navigate lines and find a table. Breakfast is served from 6 to 9 a.m.

Lagoon Lounge
Offering beer, wine, and mixed drinks, the Lagoon Lounge is a chill spot to unwind while the kids play video games and Ping-Pong. When you arrive at the Quality Inn, you'll be given a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for drinks at the Lagoon Lounge. Light snacks like popcorn are also on hand and you're welcome to order food to be delivered from other venues and eat at the lounge or take your meal poolside. Take your drink to the pool, too! It's open from noon to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, but closes at midnight Sunday through Wednesday.

Outdoor Grills
The property has six outdoor charcoal grills sitting in the courtyard. BYO charcoal.

The Best Time to Visit
Spring is the sparkling season in Cocoa Beach, assuring lovely temps with lows in the 60's and highs in the 80's. July and August can get hot and sweaty—with rain in the afternoons—while fall shows off with temps in the high 60's into the mid-80's. December through March can be a question mark, but look for temps anywhere from the low 50's into the mid-70's.

Getting There
Orlando International Airport is a 45-minute drive to the Comfort Inn without traffic. A shuttle can take a bit over 1.5 hours from the airport to the property.

Getting Around
The Comfort Inn offers two attractive packages for cruisers. The first is the Fly, Snooze, and Cruise package. The property's shuttle will pick you and the family up at the Orlando International Airport and chauffeur you to the hotel. The next day, when it's time to board your cruise, the Comfort Inn will shuttle you to Port Canaveral. Easy-peasy!

The second package is a Park & Cruise program that lets you spend the night at the Comfort Inn and leave your vehicle in the property's lot while you're many knots away. When it's time to meet your ship, the Comfort Inn will shuttle you to Port Canaveral and pick you up at the end of your sailing.

For Parents
Grab a margarita at the Lagoon Lounge and sink into a little whirlpool-therapy.
