Reviews

Very Clean, Not Quiet

by TXMARTINS

Not sure if we had teenagers or it’s just a poorly insulated building but it sounded like a basketball game was being played above us. The person next door (sadly in a room with an adjoining door) also had endless coughing fits we were able to minimize sound wise by stuffing towels along the bottom seam of the door. The noise factor is three stars, but the location & rooms were a 5 so the overall review rating is a 4. In the heart of the historic district with amazing walkability to everything! Good continental breakfast & easy valet parking.

This place is not for me

I recently stayed at this property in August 2019. We were impressed by the hotel at first, but as the day progressed, the stay started to deteriorate. We booked a suite. The decor of the room is very nice and modern, however, the floors are bare in most of the living room. We returned at 6:50 pm from a lovely afternoon and early evening in Portsmouth. Remember this is August, the sun is still shining on this summer evening. Within five minutes of our return, the people below us were banging on the ceiling and someone from the hotel was at our door telling us to be quiet. We are just a family who paid plenty of money to stay at the hotel, returning to our room. I am also a Marriott Platinum.. this is isn't my first time staying in a hotel or a "big city". Meanwhile, during the day we had witnessed loud wedding party members with drinks in their hands throughout the hotel. Honestly, we weren't making any obnoxious noise. I just can't believe that someone could be such an animal to be banging on the ceiling, isn't that damaging the hotel? I then made a complaint call to the front desk about the guest banging on the ceiling and it stopped. Again, 6:50 pm on a Summer Saturday evening. Because we are kind and courteous people, we were afraid to make noise the entire evening, being careful not to speak loud or walk loudly. It ruined our stay. I have never encountered this at any other Marriot property. As others have commented, this place can get noisy. I would never return here.
