Overview

Enjoy classy luxury at the historic Sentinel hotel, which was built in 1909 and features signature amenities like a pillow menu, gourmet ice cream, and onsite fine dining. Families, stay in a parlor suite, outfitted with one king bed and one pull-out sofa for the kids, or a Premier Double room with two double beds. Note that although the staff are more than happy to help you arrange activities with children, younger kids may find the atmosphere too stuffy and “adult” for their tastes — especially since there’s no pool. Still, it was awarded Travel & Leisure’s distinction of Best Hotel in the Northwest, so it’s certainly worth keeping on your radar, either for a family trip or a couple’s getaway.

Great customer service and first rate comfort are the hallmarks of the Sentinel

by TonyHitch

Terrific staff starting with the car valet service and continuing with front desk staff. We needed a minor repair to one of the windows in our room and the maintenance person came immediately and made the fix quickly. We also liked the bartending team at Jackknife, the in-hotel bar. We didn't eat any meals at the Sentinel, but there are lots and lots on dining choices in the neighborhood including Bistro Agnes, one of the best French bistros in town!

Lacking basics

by L0SANGELA

We came to Portland for the weekend and this was the highest rated- and seemed young and new. Boy, were we wrong! Let me just start with the bathroom. The shower is disgusting. It’s a basic Home Depot pre-made shower wall and there’s mold in the grout. Get a grout cleaner! Honestly, just upgrade your showers- there’s tons of things that you can do that aren’t crazy expensive. The towels are thin, YMCA equivalent towels. There’s just no excuse for this. You can find $15 plush towels from Amazon. These towels feel like that haven’t been replaced for 10 years. Use them as mops and rags if you’re worried about the environment! The bed has no comforter cover, which is just disgusting given that this is a hotel and has high turnover. No one wants to share the same comforter unwashed! We had a suite with a pull out mattress. The mattress was unusable. It barely supported my two kids, ages 3 and 5. It was maybe .5” thick? At most! Again, ikea has better pull outs. No one came for turn down- no water by the bedside. There aren’t even plugs by the bedside for your phone. This is the 21st century! Who doesn’t have a cell phone that they want to charge?! It’s all just inexcusable when you spend $500/ night. Don’t stay here! This place has potential but it’s managed more like a Ramada in than a Four Seasons. ????????????
