We were there for an off-season wedding but were charged very high prices for absolutely everything! The "rooms" were twice the price of other local hotels and rentals. That was with their "wedding block" prices. Since practically every room in the hotel was booked in the hotel, you would think they would give some sort of break on the price.
Rooms were small and basic at best, most had no closet space and/or dressers. Some rooms were so hot that you couldn't breathe in them and their solution was to have us open the windows, which then let in the street noise, if you could get them opened. My room had widows that were "sealed" shut. My son's room had to have maintenance come in to open them. My niece had no screens in her plus was traveling with 2 small children, not too safe with a curious 2 year old. The other rooms were exceptionally cold so they had space heaters in them. There was NO way to control your room's temperature either, they have a central heating system which was not working properly. NO AC units in any rooms!
The beds are a mattress on a 4x4 & plywood frame practically on the floor. If you want a refrigerator or crib (pack & play), you need to pay extra for each, even if you have an infant with you or need medications refrigerated. No coffee maker in the room either. The ADA room (my parents were in) had a broken toilet seat, very safe for a person who needs stability! Wasn't fixed even though it was brought to their attention. Other rooms had similar issues, none were corrected during our stay.
The advertised "heated" pool was no warmer than 55, so it was NOT usable during our stay! It was also unclear where you could get towels for the pool even if you wanted to go in. The pool beds were covered in leaves and other debris so you had to clean them yourself if you wanted to sit on them.
If you stayed on-site for breakfast, they charged $16, plus tax and 20% gratuity, for a very, very basic self-serve continental breakfast! Even though the receipt said the gratuity was included on parties of 5 or more, we had 3 on our tab but had to include the extra 20% charge. Most were unaware of this and added an additional tip for a self-serve bagel & coffee!
This stay was so jarring that I am leaving my first ever review on Trip Advisor. The salt water pool is warm and amazing. Very kid friendly in the pool. That’s where the positives end.
Here it goes, my motivation for writing a review: front desk staff was unwelcoming, belligerent and cold. Never got a hello, thank you, good morning etc. at check-in we were scolded for trying to pay with an American Express card (we booked stay over the phone one week earlier with it and they said their policy changed but the middle aged woman who was at the desk informed us in a manner that lacked professionalism, tact and finesse). At check-in, staff didn’t tell us anything about the property (how to get towels, WiFi, time for breakfast, pool hours, etc.) they pointed to where we should go to get room (which was wrong direction). We were traveling with our toddler and no one helped us with bags, either as we carried everything the wrong way and then back.... Just basic hospitality was not extended. When I’m on vacation I’m not looking for confrontation so it really disrupts your contentment when your first impression of a hotel is to feel annoyed and abused. I’m usually not sensitive either but the multiple interactions with the front staff was comically not hospitable at every touch point that it just soured the memories of the lovely pool.
Another, example of ineptitude, at check-in we were given a terrible room. When we discovered a large insect in our room we asked to be switched, which, to their credit they did, but the new room was of the same size and on the same floor but completely renovated. I don’t know why they didn’t give us a better room earlier if it was available? Not good customer service. There were many enormous spiders on property (webs, too, which means they don’t even try to not encourage their prevalence) and dead bees near the pool.
The wait staff poolside was very attentive so they should get a pat on the back. However, drinks were expensive, which one would expect in Montauk, but $25 for a Bloody Mary after tax and gratuity is absurd. Drink quality was good at least. Breakfast quality was no different from a corporate conference, cold plain bagels, musk melon, etc. didn’t eat other meals at property, so no basis to review. But at check in staff doesn’t even ask if we’d like a dinner reservation, which isn’t a good sign that they have confidence that you’ll remain on the property.
Both of the rooms we stayed in had stained towels and some dirty spots throughout the rooms that were overloaded by the maids. The window A/C units were old, noisy and didn’t work too well. The room had barely any hooks to hand towels and the chest of drawers was full of brown water. Wish I had taken a photo but I after seeing it I closed the drawer and tried to block out of memory but again, I was on vacation and really wanted to be happy and not have to assert myself on all of these faults.
The front desk, especially the middle aged woman, was seething with discontent. Perhaps she’s a method actor?
