Overview

An Old West-themed hotel, Stovepipe Wells gets high marks from visitors for clean rooms, low prices, and friendly service. While more than 20 miles from Furnace Creek and the Visitor Center, the remote location means better views of the night sky – plus gas prices at the filling station across the street are usually cheaper than in Furnace Creek. While the accommodations are no-frills, kids will definitely appreciate the pool.

Paying for the location

by Teresa C

We arrived on a Monday in late September, whilst acknowledging we were a bit too early for 3pm check in we didn't expect to be turned away from reception 3 times as rooms were not ready. Once, fair enough, but to go back at an advised time & be turned away by a different receptionist was not a good experience. By 3pm there was a queue of people all waiting to check in, we later found out the hotel was only at a fraction of the normal capacity so why they hadn't organised servicing the booked rooms first was beyond comprehension.
Once checked in our standard room was quite basic with little room to manoeuvre, the luggage rack didn't open up in the recess so had to be placed next to the bed making space even tighter.
The TV wouldn't work but was quickly fixed by a chap in reception. Housekeeping didn't replace coffee etc so off to reception again & directed to a vending area but no decaf options.
The worst thing was the bed, it squeaked with the slightest movement so everytime one of us turned over we woke up. On a plus side the AC was quiet & very effective.

Wi-Fi is only available in the main areas, outdoor seating is scattered about & you're not guaranteed to have any outside your own room.
The onsite restaurant was decent, food was pretty typical of an American diner. & the bar was well stocked.
Stovepipe Wells is without doubt in a great location, the scenery is fantastic & the night sky amazing but you do pay a lot to stay here & what you get for your money is by no means luxurious. The place is in need of updating, beds need replacing & customer service skills addressed.

Comfortable but dated

by Senioronabudget

The village hotel is somewhat dated and in need of some renovation. However, the room was comfortable. We arriived in the middle of a sand storm. The door did not seal completly so sand drifted in. A complement to the cleaning staff. They did a great job cleaning up afterwards.
