Situated on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the lodge is centrally located in the Grand Canyon Historic District. The 55 rooms here are simple: two queen beds or one king, and air conditioning is not an option. However, for a hotel with some of the best access and views of the Grand Canyon, the Thunderbird is hard to beat. Rooms are equipped with TV’s, coffee makers and refrigerators. Guests of the hotel check in at the Bright Angel Lodge.

We got a partial view room, and it is definitely a partial view - but how cool to stay right here at the Grand Canyon! We had one little window but it looks our on a tree and the Grand Canyon! I’m sure there are better rooms but we booked only a few weeks before. The hotel is quite nice (compared to what I was expecting). It was very clean, the carpet is super cool, and the retro styling outside is kind of nice. The beds are small but comfortable and there are SO many outlets in this room. We could all charge our phones and watches! The room even had a little Bluetooth speaker. We played music and relaxed in our room. There is a fridge in the room and a safe, and the bathroom is a good size. It is weird and confusing how you check in at Bright Angel Hotel. Also, parking is a DISASTER. I think the lots here should be available to hotel guests only - not everyone driving through. We wasted thirty minutes of our day trying to find a parking spot; gave up and unloaded in the middle of the street; then parked very far away and walked. There should be a unloading area in front of the hotel and parking should be for hotel guests only. The walking trails right outside of the room are amazing. The room was nice and cozy and warm (and it is cold and snowy outside!). I would love to stay at Thunderbird again!
We booked a year in advance to be sure and have a room with a view of the Canyon. AMAZING! Yes, this building is old--but, the rooms are large, quiet and have all the modern updates (including TV and coffee). We chose an "Accessible" room--which may be why the bathroom was so large and we had so much room. I would stay there again in an instant. Right on the bus route, next to the Bright Angel restaurant and ice cream/snack shop. Convenient to walking trails. Jump on the "free" bus and see the sites. We also chose to purchase Sunrise, Sunset and Dessert Tours--the drivers make the difference!
