My family and I live on Oahu and we've been trying to take advantage of the great "staycation" deals that are going on in Hawaii. The Outrigger Waipouli did not dissapoint! My family of 4 stayed there along with my Dad, brother, and his more +family. We stayed in 2 luxurious condo rooms (2 bedrooms each) that easily accomodated all of 8 of us.

Keep in mind that this is a condo/hotel facility, so there are not too many amenities and the staffing is limited. Having said that, my only complaint is that they advertise that the pool is heated, but it is certainly not! Other than that though, we had a great time.

Having access to a beach as well as a pool (jacuzzi, lazy river, slides, water fall, etc..) was great. Although the beach is not ideal for swimming cause of the rough surf, it has great tidal pools for the kids to explore. We even got to see a Hawaiian Monk Seal basking on the beach. What my kids loved most though was hunting for sand crabs at night! I guess no one hunts for these cause the crabs were so easy to catch. Huge ones! We must've caught at least 20 in just a half hour. We brought them back to our room and put them in the bath tub for the kids to enjoy before returning them safely back to the beach. So make sure to bring your own flashlights if you got kids!

Location wise, this place can't be beat with restaurants close by and a shopping center with Longs and Safeway right across the street. As a local family, we'd definitely stay here again!

This resort could not be more gorgeous. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 3 bath condo that included a full beautiful kitchen with high-end appliances, two balconies, and the biggest bath tub I have ever seen. The grounds are equally gorgeous and center more +around a pool shaped like a lazy river. The pool features 3 waterfalls and 2 water slides, plus a wading pool with a sand bottom for those days that you're too lazy to walk the extra 30 yards to the beach. Although the beach is not good for swimming, it is good for wading because it has a sheltered area. The pool area also has 3 hot tubs--2 that are adults only, and one that is not so hot, so it's great for the little ones to warm up in (since little ones can get cold quickly in a regular pool). There is also a koi pond that my 2-year-old loved--ask the front desk when feeding time is, because the let the kids help feed the fish.

The resort is located across the street from a strip mall that has a Safeway, Long's Drugs, Starbucks, Cold Stone, a really good pho place, a not so great Asian fusion place, and an ABC store (where you can buy all your kitchy souvenirs--can't leave Hawaii without those!). There is also a McDonald's a block up the street, and a pretty good pizza/pasta place adjacent to the hotel. And the upside to Kapa'a is that you're not all the way up to the north coast and not all the way to the south, so it's not as long a drive to be able to see the whole island. It's also pretty close to Lydgate Beach Park, which is a FANTASTIC way for families to spend the day. They have the biggest playground I have ever seen and the beach there is perfect for kids.

Kapa'a town itself is nice too--if you are a coffee fan, be sure to visit Java Kai in the heart of Kapa'a town. I am still missing their coffee! The one thing I'll ding this resort on is that the restaurant onsite has a very limited menu and it's pretty pricey, but with all the other food options available nearby and with the kitchens in the room, that certainly won't spoil your stay. I would definitely recommend the Outrigger Waipouli to families with kids of all ages!
