It’s about 11 miles to Anna Maria Island and six beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. Coquina Beach, on the island’s southern end heading toward Longboat Key, ranks as the largest and most family-friendly choice with a playground, concessions, picnic areas, rest rooms and showers, several lifeguard stations and plenty of room to roam. The views are breathtaking and there is free parking.
