Late sun / 4 night break.

by W2371TPdavidk

Just returned from the Solara after a 4 night break booked through Tui. We literally left on the last day of the season with the hotel staff due to close up later in the day. We were lucky to get good weather in the early 20s all week so managed to sit around the pool for a few hours for some of the days. It's worth noting the sun goes down over a large hill next to the hotel by around 3pm latest. The pool is a good size and supposed to be heated out of season but the water was freezing ! The hotel itself was very nice and clean and the room was a good size with good facilities e.g. mini bar, large TV, free safe, huge bed, etc. Room was cleaned every day and at night a chocolate was left on your bedside. A nice touch. The hotel is about 10 minutes from town so has a free shuttle bus that runs hourly which was a godsend. I suspect in high season it probably gets busy as it only had around 25 seats. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had bed and breakfast with the usual buffet breakfast mix of hot and cold food. At night there was a good menu selection with table service but we found the food to be good but not maybe as good as pitched by Tui which rates the hotel as 5 star platinum and heavily promotes the food as almost gourmet level. We ate in the hotel for 2 nights and ate out for 2 nights. We would have actually prefered bed and breakfast but it wasnt available. You should also note you cant pay in cash for anything in the hotel it has to be put on your room on account. We paid the bar bills off the following morning so to not get hit with a big bill at the end of the week. Also note in Italy there is a tourist tax of 3 euros per night at this hotel and all other hotels which needs to be paid in cash when you leave. It is a great hotel and officially a 4 star so without having a spa and other facilities we thought Tui were stretching it a bit saying it's a platinum 5 star. There was only entertainment 2 times during the week (piano player / singer) so again not what i would call 5 star. Maybe there are other acts during high season but i suspect there isnt. Sorrento is a nice town and we also visited Pompeii for a day trip. All in all a good short break in a nice hotel but maybe not quite the 5 star hotel that Tui are promoting but that's more of a gripe with Tui rather than the Solara.

Amazing hotel, great staff, delicious food

Amazing hotel. Absolutely spotless and staff are so friendly. We stayed here for 4 nights and when we arrived we got a glass of champagnes, fresh orange juice for the kids and some crisps. They even took our bag up to the room, great service. We had a sea view which was lovely, nice views as it’s in the country side, just outside of sorrento. The food is delicious, evening meals are so nice, 3 course. Selection on the menu is amazing. Menu was different every night. Also a selection of salad and bread to help your self on the side. Restaurant staff were amazing. There is a free shuttle bus to Sorrento which is about 10 minutes long which runs every hour, starting at 8am. Rooms are always spotless, cleaners do an amazing job. There is shampoo, conditioner and body lotion in the bathroom. We did a Tui guided tour of Soreento with the Tui guide. The WIFI is very good, high speed all throughout the hotel. Mini Bar fridge too, good bonus! The pool was cold but we only went in it once. Recommend the a Pompei trip, so interesting!

We will be returning next year. Thank you Hotel La Solara. We had a fantastic stay!
