You don’t have to stay at an all-inclusive resort in Cancun. The popular vacation destination offers a wonderful selection of vacation rentals, as well as traditional beach resorts with a la carte activities and restaurants. If you’re looking for a non-all-inclusive experience in Cancun, the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach is our pick.
The undeniably luxurious family resort features a beautiful, intimate beach, with calm waves that are perfect for young children. It also offers one the best kids’ clubs we’ve ever encountered, with age-specific activities and even a water park! Stunning pools, delicious restaurants, deluxe suites and a world-class spa (re: hydrotherapy ritual) make it one of our favorites, too. Another perk? You can hop a ferry to Isla Mujeres right from the resort!
Fun Fact: Jordin Sparks babymooned at this resort in 2018!

Rooms & Rates
The Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach is an all-suite resort, with 602 suites available. All suites have balconies and ocean views. Suites come in four variations:
Junior Suites span 560 square feet. They offer one king or two double beds, with oceanview or oceanfront vistas.
Master suites are 860 square feet in size and equipped with one king bed and a Jacuzzi tub. These rooms are best for solo travelers or couples; some of them connect to other suites to easily accommodate large or multigenerational families wanting to be together.
Upgrade to the Grand Club for access to the VIP Penthouse Lounge. There, you'll find complimentary snacks and premium beverages all day. Grand Club rooms are available in Junior Suites or Master Suites and feature the resort's best views.
The resort's two Presidential Suites span 5,140 square feet! They can sleep four guests, as there is one master bedroom with a king bed (and Jacuzzi tub) and another bedroom with two twin beds. Presidential Suites also feature full kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms.
Connecting rooms, cribs, and rollaway beds are available.
We were here recent and had a junior suite. The hotel is very big, no discussion about it. But you pay an additional 25$/day for using the resort. It's not like you can decide if you want to use it or not, you have to pay it anyway. So why not including it right away in the total sum? Furthermore we had a room in the 4th floor, north side. Bad choice as it seems. We had right behind our room door the climatisation of the whole hotel, which made a terrible noise 24 hours. Furthermore I have been approached in a very poor and silly way by one of the hotel guys for a *free* breakfast, only because it's me and my friend. Not to mentioned that we have to buy some sort of bundle. Also he hits everybody *Are you with the Williams family?* just to get in discussion. Me and some other hotel guests were very surpised by such a high standard hotel to get approached like this. Concierge service was great, but the boss of the Concierge was very unfriendly and cold to us. I can't even tell why. Twice we needed something and she handled us very rude. Maybe she had on both days a bad day, neverless you don't let that affect your work. Very good was that the hotel is very central to the general party zone (foot walk about 5 minutes) and you had some groceries store around to buy some stuff. Even if this is a 4-5 star, I would personally rather not come again here. Too unpersonal, rude superior and this hotel has no charme at all. It seemed for me very, very american style hotel. Well, maybe I give it another go and see where it goes then, but definetely not of my prefered choices...
Big room and amazing sea view. The best you can get for a honeymoon. The restaurants are expensive that other nearby hotels but they are something to try.
The location of the hotel is best in Cancun. Everything is accessible at walking distance. Bars, clubs, Selecto (Mexico's Stop and Shop store)
The beach is very private; you won't find pesky vendors here. Another feature we love about it? The waves are calm -- perfect for families with young children. Loungers and umbrellas are available.
The resort's pools interconnect to weave throughout the back of the property. Kids will love floating underneath the bridges and walkways. Bring your own (flamingo-shaped) float or purchase one at the resort.
Coral Kidz Club
Coral Beach's kids' club is one of the best kids' clubs we've ever encountered -- seriously. Designed for children between 3 and 12, Coral Kidz Club offers age-centric activities, from a make-believe grocery store for toddlers to costumes and a performance stage for tween superstars. All kids will love the dinosaur-themed land, where they can dig for "fossils" outside, as well as the water park.
Coral Kidz Club also offers organized activities, such as cooking classes and night camps. Note that many of these require a reservation in advance.
Bonus: Families are given four complimentary passes to Coral Kidz Club (one morning, one afternoon, one all-day, and one night session); a fee applies for any visits after that.
Note: All children must be potty trained to attend the kids' club.
The hotel provides kayaks, paddleboards and other non-motorized equipment to enjoy on the water. Use of the equipment is included in the daily resort fee (see Planning & Tips).
You can literally see Isla Mujeres from the resort. Better yet, you can visit by hopping on a ferry from the resort's marina! Spend the day exploring this unique island with a real sense of Mexican culture before returning to Coral Beach at sunset.
The resort features several a la carte restaurants. Bonus: Children ages 12 and under eat free at all of the the restaurants, with kids' menus or kid-friendly entrees and highchairs available.
Vina Del Mar
The breakfast and brunch buffet at Vina Del Mar is not to be missed! The decadent spread includes all of your favorites -- from made-to-order omeletes and pancakes to fluffy pastries and fresh fruit -- plus local delicacies. It's open 6:30 a.m. to noon daily, with both indoor and outdoor seating available.
Coral Cafe resembles a French bistro, with light fare for lunch and dinner. You can also grab a coffee and pastry to go. It's open 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Indoor seating only.
Enjoy your meal with a view at Isla Contoy. The restaurant overlooks the teal-blue ocean and serves lunch (11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and dinner (6:30 to 11) daily. Seafood and Mexican dishes are the specialties.
La Joya is ideal for a date night, but is equally family-friendly. The dim-lit restaurant serves authentic and delicious Mexican fare for dinner. The highlight? Live Mariachi music! It's open 6:30 to 11 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday.
Room service is available 24/7.
Planning & Tips
All About the Extras
The resort fee is $25 per day. It covers access to and amenities at the gym, pool, and beach, including towel service, fruit kabobs and ice cream. It also covers all organized activities, such as live entertainment and morning yoga classes (twice weekly); use of non-motorized water sports; and in-room amenities.
The resort's fitness center provides all the necessities for your vacation workouts. Bottled water, fresh fruit and chilled towels are available.
The hotel provides baby amenities such as sterilizers, highchairs, and baby beach chairs.
Babysitting services are available via a third-party vendor.
The Best Time to Visit
You'll find the hotel's lowest rates mid-May through mid-December. The crowds pick up around the winter holidays, when families like to trade the cold temps for warm days by the beach.
The hotel provides shuttle service via a local transportation company; the cost is approximately $70 (USD) for up to four passengers, one way. Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Resort is about 20 minutes from Cancun International Airport. If you decide to rent a car and bring it to the resort, parking is complimentary.
Many resort guests cross the street to explore local attractions and restaurants. The resort's 24-hour concierge can also help you arrange excursions to popular attractions such as Xcaret. And you can easily hop a ferry to Isla Mujeres right from the resort for a cultural experience on the tiny, beautiful island.
Do not miss Gem Spa. We repeat, DO NOT MISS GEM SPA! The spa is widely known for its Hydrotherapy Ritual, a 10-step treatment that includes a steam room, sauna, mineral soak and more. All of that takes place before you get to your massage, facial, or scrub.
Le Basilic is an AAA Five Diamond restaurant -- one of very few restaurants in Mexico with that distinction. It serves French-Mediterranean fare from 6:30 to 11 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Kids are welcome, but if you ask us, this one calls for a babysitter.
