Overview

This hotel has a clean, comfortable and contemporary design, a convenient location near the beach and other attractions, and quite a few amenities that will make the whole family happy. Most rooms at Hampton Inn Santa Cruz feature king beds and have an unusual amount of room to spread out in. In addition, there’s free Internet access, a complimentary hot breakfast and the new in-room flat-screens offer premium cable channels. There is no onsite restaurant, but there are plenty of good ones nearby, as well as a 24-hour Denny’s next door.

Well located, if a little complicated to get to

by Neal S

It isn't every day your GPS tells you to make a U-turn when you've followed its instructions faithfully. But that's what it takes when you're approaching the Hampton Inn from Cal 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). This hotel sits at the top of Ocean Street, an easy walk to restaurants and shops (though not the beach). Built around an atrium, our room was quiet, nicely appointed, and equipped with all the amenities you expect from a Hampton Inn. The evening desk manager was very helpful in identifying just the right restaurant, and also went well out of her way to print out the boarding passes we would need the next morning. The morning desk staff was equally gracious and informative.
Nitpicks: 1) Opening the shade at the back of our room was a shock: we were less than a foot from the room of a building next door. 2) the one-piece duvet is far too heavy for the room; with only that plus a top sheet for cover. We stripped off the duvet and used a much lighter blanket from the closet. 3) the nearest queen bed is considerably less than a foot from the wall. Getting out from the 'wall' side was an adventure.

While on a recent business trip, had the pleasure of lodging at the Hampton Inn. The staff, beginning with arrival to departure, was pleasant, quite professional and made us feel very welcome. Next time while visiting Santa Cruz, this is the place to stay, hands-down.
