Nice Hotel in the Tropics

by CalifTravelerOne

A person has to take into account where a hotel is when evaluating it. No hotel in Puerto Maldonado is going to be confused with a luxury Paris hotel. There was much to recommend the Don Carlos.

Our room was very clean. I have to say I was concerned that we might find bugs or mold, but it had neither. It was neat. It was cool! And it was very quiet. There was a nice patio to sit on in the afternoon where you could see the Tambopata River, catch the late breeze, and read a book.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, as were all the people we encountered in Peru. When we needed a taxi, they got it for us. (And rides in Puerto Maldonado are very inexpensive.)

The room included breakfast, which was more than satisfactory. The coffee and eggs were both delicious.

We only spent one night there so we could get adjusted before heading into the jungle for a week, but we liked the place.

There is a question below about whether the hotel is quaint. I'd say it is. Not in a gingerbread quaint way. But check it out and you'll understand. It's a great place to relax and get ready for a trip into the rainforest.

Dirty and messy

by Yrsa A

Stayed at this hotel for about 2 nights, the location was abit far off from the centre, but looks very nice with tropical surroundings. If you're picky with hotel standard I would not recommend it. The place was altogether dirty and under construction, the staff could not speak english very well, internet worked in my room but not outside my door. The pool was full of bugs and I did not care much for the breakfast either. Regardless of these faults I enjoyed my stay because I was backpacking, and felt like this was a jungle hotel. The rest of my stay in Puerto Maldonado I stayed in Cabana Quinta.
