Located in a converted mansion, the 40-room Hotel Grano de Oro is just big enough to feature a good restaurant, but small enough to have a friendly attitude. All rooms are comfortably furnished, and some have private patios. The two-room family suite accommodates five people.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our arrival into Costa Rica. The hotel is lovely and the staff fantastic. It is about a 10/15 minute walk into the centre of the city so really well situated away from all the hustle and bustle. Great bar and lovely restaurant with friendly helpful stall throughout. We’d stay again and again!
We found our room a bit stuffy but very clean. Service is very pleasant and a slight colonial feeling which is rarely found anywhere else we visited in Costa Rica. A good place to stay if you want to experience (only briefly!) San Jose instead of staying in one of the many hotels around the airport.
