While this is not ON the beach or a luxury resort worthy of 5 stars, it is an
We have stayed here many times and it never disappoints us. It sits BACK off the road, has a huge courtyard and, has firepits and grilles for your use.
A few years ago as we were having coffee on our second floor porch, a huge bull moose walked right through the courtyard ..!!!
The rooms are clean and the staff is very attentive.
We needed a two night stay in this area and it was kind of last minute in August. This meant our favourite places were all booked up or had a 4 night minimum stay. After thinking about it we decided to try this budget motel. We paid $129 an night in August, and the next cheapest I could find available was $214 so we decided to give it a try.
After booking, I read some reviews and got a bit worried but we were happy with our choice based on the rates at other hotels. We arrived at noon, paid the balance, were told our room would be ready by two and that we could leave our car as we were biking to the beach. The office staff were friendly, efficient and polite. It takes about 5 minutes by bike to get to the footbridge beach and about 8 minutes on the way back as it is uphill. There is also Moody Beach and the time is about the same by the time you get to the lot where we could lock up bikes. Both these beaches have bathrooms and both cost $25 to park in high season.
Our bed was surprisingly comfortable and we heard no noise from other rooms except in the morning we could hear a shower running. Our room was on the south side of the horseshoe so we could sit outside our room an wait for a trolley. Once we saw it enter the property , we had plenty of time to get to the stop. Both the Wells and Ogunquit trolleys stop here so it is a great way to get around.
Our room was 1 queen so wasn't very big. Yes, it is outdated in decor but it was very clean and the air conditioning worked reasonably well. We never turned on the TV so have no idea. The free wi-fi was very fast and the fridge worked well even though it made a bit of noise.
The pool was a very good size.... bigger than many other motels around was clean and had lots of chairs. The sign said it was heated but we found it a bit cold. Still manageable though after trying to get in the ocean which was frigid.
The free included breakfast had drinkable orange juice, cereal, milk, toast, English muffins, bagels and amazing donuts... (not my usual choice for breakfast but I couldn't resist) and of course coffee.
On the second evening we ended up at the campfire and had a great visit with some fellow travellers. Lots of interesting conversations.
On check out day, we left keys around 10 but they allowed us to park there while we again went to the beach by bike. Upon returning I had a quick swim and then changed at the pool into my travel clothes. Again, staff was friendly and pleasant to deal with.
For those looking for an inexpensive choice in Ogunquit the Majestic Regency is a good choice. Don't be scared off by some of the bad reviews but remember you are booking one of the lowest priced accommodations around. Set your expectations accordingly.
