Overview

This White Mountain resort was made for families, with 165 acres of property with stunning mountain views every direction you look. The grounds are full of diversions to keep the kids busy, including a playground, tennis court, and hiking trails on property. A separate “mountain club” contains indoor and outdoor pools, steam room, and game room.

Room furnishings in standard rooms are basic and somewhat dated, for the most part consisting of simple unvarnished wood furniture, but many of the units contain special amenities such as full kitchens, gas fireplaces, and Jacuzzi tubs. Room sizes vary from a one-bedroom condo with pullout couch to a three bedroom townhouse with a loft for the kids. At the top of the line are the chateau accommodations–spacious luxury suites with vaulted ceilings, oversized flat-screen TVs, and open-format chef kitchens. They also include access to a separate private pool.

In addition to having ready access to Mount Washington and the surrounding mountains of the Presidential Range, the resort is only five minutes from Story Land and less than an hour from Santa’s Village. It offers special packages with discounted tickets to both attractions.

Nice place but needs attention to detail

by Timothy G

This resort is a nice place to spend a weekend or week as you take in the local attractions. Over the years my family and I have had three stays here and have always enjoyed it. That said, there are some drawbacks:

First, would be the resort fee. I believe it is 10% of the accommodation fee. I'm sure in the warm season when all the resort has to offer is available it is an easier fee to take. During the cold months, such as the stay we just ended it's far from a bargain.

Another issue would be the additional charge if you require housekeeping. I understand this is common at resorts like this one where the individual units are owned by private parties but still there's a lot of money being made here! In our week-long stay, we had one scheduled towel change and one scheduled linen change. The towel change left us with half as many fresh towels as we had on check-in. The linen change two days later left one bed changed and the second simply with fresh linen in a bag on the dresser. In all fairness, my nineteen-year-old had left a tablet on the bed and I understand some places have a no-touch policy on electronic devices but still it simply adds to the general lack of attention to detail.

Some of those details are little things like faucet markings being on the wrong handle; cold labeled hot and vice-versa. One faucet actually had the valve in backward... I'm not sure how this happened but you had to turn it clockwise to get water and counterclockwise to shut off. Another faucet had its label cap broken so it kept popping out (see photos).

The downstairs bathroom had a weak spot in the floor in front of the toilet and tub. Several of the floor tiles are cracked from it so it has obviously been an issue for a while! This is a problem that is only going to get worse and should have been fixed in a timely manner (see photos). Also, both the shower drain and sink drain in the same bath are very slow. Water backs up almost immediately when the faucet or shower head is turned on.

Last, the furnishings have to be the most uncomfortable I've ever experienced. I am referring to the living room couch and chair. I understand this furniture is supplied by the condo owners and not the resort. The dining table chairs all feel wobbly like they could just collapse under you. This is not a huge issue it simply requires a little time and clue. Again, attention to detail.

We really do like it here and in the off-seasons you get a very competitive rate but that's the norm here this time of year. Honestly, I'm not sure I will be back. I certainly would never pay the busy season rates this resort gets. It's too bad really, there's so much potential here.
