Over rated in my opinion. Yes, some vendors set up at night, but nothing special. The $1 charge to get to the end we didn't understand...guess it was to see the sunset which you can see from anywhere (awesome sunsets by the way).
We chose this hotel for our weekend getaway by the beach for my husband's birthday. Compared to nearby hotels, the price was reasonable and the proximity to the beach and restaurants was within walking distance. The reviews were all good for the most part so we gave it a shot. Here are my thoughts.
We were in room 701 which was a King room with a balcony and equal parts view of the beach, marina, and the strip. The room is a little dated and the bed was too firm, but it was very spacious and housekeeping kept it very clean. This room is located just off the elevators which has it pros and cons but the most noise came from outside traffic since it was at the corner of the building.
The pool is very uneventful. It is kept clean but isn't resort like at all. It is on the street level and there is easy access from the parking garage. It's pretty small but we never had a problem finding chairs. It could use a Tiki Bar of some sort for sure. We brought our own drinks or had to make trips up to the roof-top bar (Jimmy Crow's Nest). There are restrooms by the pool and they were kept clean for the most part.
Jimmy Crow's Nest restaurant and bar on the roof-top is definitely the highlight of this hotel. The views are great and the drinks were always strong. The food and service was good too.
The "free" continental breakfast actually included some processed egg products and breakfast meat but nothing spectacular. If you don't care much about having a big breakfast then the pastries, bagels, and cereal options may work for you. The coffee should not be called coffee however... it was from a Nestle machine and it looks like weak tea and tasted like water. I'm a BIG coffee drinker and fan so this was disappointing and it was our last trip to the lobby level for breakfast.
The staff was always kind and accommodating so no complaints there. Considering the locale of this hotel, I think we'll visit again but we may consider other nearby hotels even if a little more expensive to have more of a resort like experience. The parking cost did just go up from $15 to $20 which is a bit much I think.
