Overview

A quintessentially New England family-owned motel, the Shamrock offers a clean and comfortable budget lodging with a little Irish hospitality right off Route I-93 in the White Mountain foothills. The property offers four motel rooms with homey touches, including knotty pine wainscoting and homemade quilts on the beds, along with somewhat dated furniture and bathroom fixtures and old-fashioned TVs. The four cottages are similar in feel, if a notch more upscale, with roomy bedrooms, spacious living room, and full-size eat-in kitchens.

The motel also provides a daily free continental breakfast, and a fire pit on weekends. For kids, there is a playhouse attached to the motel with games and toys, as well as an outdoor swimming pool. A number of animals also share the property, including a pair of goats, a rabbit, and a gaggle of chickens that kids can feed or pet. The motel is located 15 minutes from Clark’s Trading Post, 20 minutes from Waterville Valley, and an hour from Santa’s Village.

Great Location, Clean, Affordable

by breezy5string

As a hiker who frequents the White Mountains, I’m always looking for reliable places to stay (when I’m not camping) that won’t break the bank. The Shamrock Motel is the perfect place for this.

The location is great - it’s in Thornton right off 93 across from a field with stunning views of Tecumseh and other peaks of the Sandwich Range. You can also see parts of the Franconia Ridge on a clear day if you look north. It’s also very close to trailheads for Osceola, Welch/Dickey, Sandwich Dome, and Mt Israel. The owners are very nice and accommodating. The rooms are clean, cozy, and smell fresh. The price cannot be beat for what this motel offers. They even have a little gift shop and a continental breakfast.

If you want to enjoy a laid back place to stay in the western White Mountains that is a bit removed from the noise and traffic of Lincoln, the Shamrock Motel is where you want to stay.

Great place to stay for a night!

This was a good place to stay for a night after a night out in the wilderness but we couldn't sleep at night because we found a spider crawling on the bed. Quite location!!

If you are looking to get away from the technology, and be in a remote location but a bit comfy this is the place as long as you don't mind the occasional crawling creatures giving you company on the bed!!
