Western Pleasure Guest Ranch in northern Idaho welcomes families year-round. Families choose from one of the four hand-hewn log cabins at the ranch. Each cabin is authentically decorated and offers some of the coziest dude range cabins in the nation for Western adventure and comfort. Or, guests can choose Grandma or Grandpa’s room on the main level of the lodge or one of four suites on the second level of the lodge.

The ranch is located on 1,100 acres in the Selkirk and Cabinet Mountain Ranges. The spectacular and changing scenery of the seasons varies the activity from summer fun and family programming to fall horseback rides, winter Fat-bat bike rides in snow and spring ski and snowmobile packages—there is a bounty of outdoor activity at the lodge door. For horseback riding, there is an eight-year and above age limit. No fret, there’s plenty of other activity for members of the family.

Families meet in The Great Room for all meals that are served family-style in the off-seasons. There is an upstairs loft for additional relaxation, a recreation room, outdoor hot tub, basketball court, horseshoes, playground for the little ones and laundry facilities. What’s also unique about this guest dude ranch is the cabins can be booked and/or the lodge can be booked in the off-season without meals, or there are B&B offerings to choose from, a rarity in dude ranches.

Peace and quiet

by Ramona I

My husband and I only get one weekend a month for Respite from being caregivers to family. We loved every minute on the peaceful front porch of the lodge with no demands on our time. A very special place.

B&B stay

by beer4every1

The grounds and lodge are beautiful; the horse and tree farm appear prosperous. The room and available accommodations in the upper level of the lodge are comfortable and homelike. We stayed simply as a B&B guest. Minimal information was offered at check-in regarding facilities and available activities. For us, the evenings were less accommodating and less welcoming than we expected. The lower level of the lodge is used for dinner and social activity that exclude B&B guests. The noise of social activities and food smells rise to the upper level in a way that interferes with the enjoyment of the the upper level accommodations. Our experience was similar to being at a restaurant for a pleasant meal while being seated next to a large group using the restaurant for a celebration event. The activities of the large group override individual expectations. Our suggestion, if staying off-season as a B&B guest would be to bring your own party or plan your evenings with awareness of how the lower area is used. Otherwise - give consideration to the cabins. Again, the location is beautiful.
