We were disappointed in our stay at the Gotham Hotel. Although once we called attention to the deficiencies in our room, the staff brought us what was missing or what was not right, but we thought we should not have had these issues in the first place. To be specific, when we got in our room which was "ready", the shade on the window was twisted so did not go all the way down, the coffeemaker had the last guest's used coffee pods in it and the canister was half-filled with the last guest's water, we only had one hand towel in the bathroom, and there was no shower soap. There were also no paper cups for the coffee and only one caffienated coffee pod for the coffee maker, no decaf. Upon calling housekeeping, these things were rectified in short order but was interrupting.
The lobby is very small and commercial and to use the restroom on the ground floor, one must go down a floor on the elevator and walk through a long hallway of dirty cleaning equipment, rags, etc. to reach the unisex bathroom. Otherwise the desk clerks at the hotel were friendly and the doorman was helpful with directions and putting luggage in the car.
My mom and I shared a room. Room was clean, safe and very convenient. But the real plus here was the hospitality! A diamond in the rough!! All front desk personnel were super helpful and friendly. Housekeeping and maintenance attended to our needs quickly. And all doormen were extremely cordial and greeted us every time. Artan was extremely knowledgeable about NYC, very upbeat with an infectious personality. Forget about cranky New Yorkers, Artan was wonderful!
