This hotel is under an umbrella of IHG. Never ever book online with these folks. They will sucker you in to a lower rate and not tell you that the reservation is unrefundable, then when you cancel THEY WILL CHARGE YOUR CARD and hold firm to that unrefundable "policy." They have no compassion, make things very difficult and are COLD AND CALLUS PEOPLE. Including the owners and GM of the hotel (in Orange Beach) who HIDE BEHIND THE IHG brand, and use it as an excuse to get your money up front. My bad for trusting that there are HUMAN BEINGS involved in managing a property.
We knew while booking this hotel that the hotel was not on the beach, but across the street. However I didn’t realize it was nearly a mile walk...too far to walk when traveling with kids and lugging beach toys. The front desk said they had a shuttle that starts operating at 9am or else we would have to pay $5 to park if we chose to drive to the beach. We decided to use the hotel shuttle to the beach. Huge mistake! We had to call and request the shuttle 3 times before he finally showed to pick us up from the beach. Our shuttle incident was not an isolated one. The other family we were traveling with had issues with the shuttle service as well. I’d recommend to the hotel manager reading this, to either quit advertising the free beach shuttle or hire someone who’s sole job is to go back in forth shuttling beach goers.
This hotel is VERY dog friendly. That’s a plus to anyone traveling with dogs. But if you left your dog at home, then it’s kind of aggravating dealing with the constant barks you hear while walking through the halls. I felt like I was walking through a dog kennel. Not to mention the ones you hear barking through the paper thin walls. From the moment you walk into the lobby you can tell they cater toward dogs more than they do kids. There’s a water bowl out for the dogs, as well at a bucket of tennis balls, a few different types of treats. But nothing for the kids. No cookies or snacks of any sort unless you wanted to purchase them.
We enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor swimming pools. However, don’t even waste your time lugging the cooler down. The pool waitress nicely told me that no coolers are allowed in the pool area. They want you purchasing their drinks instead. When returning to Gulf Shores I will choose a hotel on the beach. However, I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with dogs, and hanging out on the beach isn’t important to you.
