Reviews

Quiet and basic

by tishville

We needed a quiet place to stay (Oaxaca is very noisy) for a night and this place fit the bill. Paid $43 approx. cash. The courtyard and terrace were lovely, as was the staff. It helps if you speak Spanish. No a.c. but there was a fan which was fine. Room was very musty, but it was rainy season. Floors could have been a bit cleaner. It was fine, but not the same level of impeccable cleanliness as most hotels in Oaxaca. Great location. Would return.

Disappointing

by J_Rome

Booked this hotel based on reviews, thinking it would be a great place in Oaxaca. Sadly, the reviews do not match my experience. The property is nice and so are the rooms. However where this hotel fails is in its cleanliness. It appears that they use the same water to wash the floors of perhaps all of the rooms. So the dirty water only gets spread around. After my first night, the bottoms of my feet were black, only from walking barefoot in the room. Since the staff do not speak English, I used a translator to communicate at the front desk, asking if they could wash the floor. The response was that I was walking around with my shoes and that made it dirty. This was definitely not the case. After the room was made up on the second day, the floors were the same; yet I believe they were washed, albeit with a bucket of filthy water. So I went out and purchased my own cleaning supplies and cleaned the floor myself; not something one should have to do. After walking around barefoot again, my feet were not black. I am still at this hotel and today I will leave a note asking them to not wash the floor as I have it clean. Since I am still at the hotel, I will update my review, should anything change.

Included in the room is coffee. The coffee pot had not been cleaned. The bottom of the carafe was encrusted with old coffee. Again this was something that was neglected and I had to scour it out before using. There was a packet of coffee, some sugar and creamer powder; but only upon arrival. So far, none of it has been replenished. Replacement of clean towels is also hit and miss.

In case you think I am being unfair, I am attaching a photo of dirty feet and the water after cleaning only a part of the floor. No plug for the basin made it challenging to get the picture.

As others have commented about the Wifi, it is spotty and the connection drops at random times. They provided 2 connection names and passwords. Only 1 of them works. The other one has an incorrect password.

There is no in-room safe, if this is important to you.

These are things that could easily be corrected, and if so, I would be happy to update my review and rating. So far though, I feel this property is not worth the money. There are many other hotels around the area and they are in good locations as well.
