Our airline put us up at this hotel for a night after we were involuntarily bumped from our scheduled return flight. Despite being frustrated about the glitch in our travel plans, we were highly impressed with the quality of the accommodations, more +service, dining and other features of this resort. It was a step up from the hotel we stayed at for the bulk of our vacation (though that one was fine, too).

The rooms were well-appointed with attention to detail and we could look over the property and ocean from the comfortable daybed on the balcony. The staff was kind, helpful and professional. We ate at the buffet restaurant because it was the only one covered by the airline, but the atmosphere and food were fantastic (it offers theme nights with relevant cuisine). There aren't as many restaurants to choose from as at other places. Besides the buffet, there's a gourmet Italian option and a beachfront eatery with seafood/grilled selections. But the emphasis is on quality, not quantity. The Omni offers both European and all-inclusive plans.

The kids, 12 and 14, loved one of the pools that had a waterfall and fountain features. The beach was very nice and the water calmer than elsewhere along the coast. We saw a wedding take place and the setup for that was beautiful yet simple, with the ocean as a wonderful backdrop. There are even luxurious beds with canopies you can rent on the beach and a beachfront bar has swings you can sit on instead of stools. Other examples of the attention to detail.

Our kids did not personally experience the children's programs because of our short stay, but we saw a couple of them in action. The group sizes were very manageable and the staff leading them were energetic and engaging. It was my understanding kids get suitcases filled with games and books, a backpack and menu options that appeal to young palates. The hotel also gives parents information on Cancun family attractions/activities, a first-aid kit and local emergency numbers--even outlet covers and night lights, if needed.

I can't comment on the cost of the Omni Cancun because our stay was compliments of the airline and I haven't investigated that since returning. It's an upscale resort with a beautiful location and not as crowded as some of the larger facilities. We weren't thrilled about the delay in our flight, but the silver lining was that the extra day did allow us to experience a different Cancun lodging option. I would definitely explore the Omni first if we ever return (when we can REALLY enjoy it). Highly recommended.
