12. Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel – Portland, OR

When it comes time to camp out at night, the Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel has you covered. Free of charge, guests can have a good old-fashioned indoor campout delivered to their room, best for children ages three to eight. Included in the package are a floor cushion, teddy bear sleeping bag and campfire nightlight.

Wait, there’s more. Look out for the scout leader, or shall we say, the Bedtime Butler, who makes the rounds four to five nights a week, delivering a cart of traditional nightcaps and a selection of other treats to rooms. The surprise and delight offerings rotate with the seasons, but often include local bourbons, hot tea, fresh towels and slippers for adults, plus cookies, cocoa, and books for kids. The catch is, you can’t request or ‘order’ the Bedtime Butler. He or she will visit rooms at random with their cart of complimentary ‘nightcaps’ to choose from, so guests have to keep an ear out for a knock at the door. Kids love it and it’s a great way to restock the tent with treats.
