Had another outstanding vacation at Casa Dorada. I can’t say enough about the service and VIP treatment my family and I received while at Casa Dorada. I want to start off by mentioning David, Emilio, and Gabino from the pool. Every day my family went to the pool, David, Emilio, and Gabino were there bringing us towels, umbrellas, chairs, or whatever we needed. David Emilio, and Gabino were very friendly and helpful. Ramiro, Uriel, and Sandra were always on top of it when we needed drinks at the pool. They too were very friendly and nice.
Xiemena from the B Bar was always nice to us and treated us like VIP guests. After my young son spilled a drink, she made him a new one without even asking. Oscar from the swim up bar was also very nice. He looked extremely young but eager to learn and provided exceptional service.
It’s employees like the ones I mentioned above that keep me going back and bringing new family members to Casa Dorada. However, I do have a few complaints.
There were many tiles in the pool that were broken and needed to be replaced. There was also big piece of plaster broken at the bottom of the pool. For the amount of money I paid to be a member, I expect these minor details to be addressed. Casa Dorada also needs to contract with a better wave runner company. The person in charge of the wave runners refused to allow us to rent wave runners because we had vouchers instead of cash. The only time he had for us was always after 3pm even though there were several wave runners being unused. He definitely is not someone I would ever go back to for wave runners. Other than that, we loved it and can’t wait to go back.
The hotel, restaurants, pool area and beach area are all very nice, clean and safe. There were absolutely no mosquitos in or around the hotel day or night. They do offer an airport transfer but it's $170 round trip which is kind of excessive. When you arrive at the airport in San Jose de Cabo there are tons of regulated taxi and private transfers you can buy at the airport arrivals desk for a small fraction of that price.
Beach was nice and swimmable, though quite crowded with both people, jet skis and boat tours. Around dinner time the Mango Deck party bar which is 10 feet away from the hotel beach starts pumping up the music and narrating college spring break type contests on very loud speakers until as late as 11pm which created a party atmosphere that wasn't really what I was looking for. If you want something quiet and relaxing, this particular strip of Medano beach is not the best place for that. My friend and I both got stung by aguamales (Jellyfish cousins with little tentacles that sting) while swimming in the part of Medano beach in front of the hotel and we wish we knew they were there beforehand. In the evenings when people stopped swimming in the ocean, schools of stingrays would take over the swimming area in front of the hotels along Medano beach and get really close to shore, which was cool to watch.
Another highlight of the hotel is their amazing buffet breakfast, which exceeded my expectations and was very vegan - friendly. They had tons of fresh fruit, veggies, salsas and fresh juices. A 1 minute walk from the hotel just around back in the direction of SUR Beach Club, there is an ATM and corner store where you can buy all the basics like water and snacks for very cheap.
There were some minor details that were overlooked like metal shavings in the bathtub and an A/C unit that needs to be replaced. The wall mounted air conditioning unit in the room was super loud from the moment I turned it on like a giant truck about to break down. I think it needed to be cleaned out or replaced because the entire room smelt like mildew / was super humid like the old A/C that just kept recirculating old damp air. The balcony sliding glass window was stuck shuck so I couldn't air the room out. It would be nice if they aired the rooms out between guests.
