A trip to Quebec City has always been on our list, and we wanted to stay in the old town to be close to the sights and shops. We chose the Hotel Du Vieux based on reviews and location and frankly, could not have been happier.
Easy to find, easy to check in, warm, inviting, clean, with large rooms, great beds, very up to date and great front desk staff. Everything is just outside the door, up the hill (or down, if one is going to the market) and accessible. Parking is a block away in a secure parkade.
What made this hotel exceptional were the extra services one doesn't find in a large chain property. In addition to cable TV, the rooms have a DVD player and the lounge (where there is a gourmet coffee machine as well as fruit available all day) has a binder with hundreds of movies to choose from. I can't remember the last time I watched a DVD, but we took full advantage of this in the evenings once we had our fill of being tourists. They will even pop a bowl of popcorn to munch on while you enjoy your movies! Simple but so enjoyable.
We absolutely recommend this hotel. It was quiet, had windows that open for fresh air, and it was comfortable. If we ever return to Quebec, this will be our first choice for a hotel.
Finally, we had dinner one night in Tournebrouche Bistro, which is located just off the lobby for the hotel. The meal there was quite good, and the service was wonderful. Worth a try.
This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. We took our first blended family trip to Quebec and stayed at the chateau Frontenac for two days and then two days here. Their were 8 of us in two rooms. We spent two days at the chateau and then two here. This is a boutique hotel and a very walkable hotel. With free gourmet coffee. The kids loved the DVD movies you pickup at the front desk or bring your own and unlimited microwave popcorn they pop at the front desk to make you feel at home. Then every morning a picnic basket hanging on your door. With juice and yogurt and fruit and fresh croissants for everyone. It was amazing and a great value.
