Let me start this review by saying we had booked our trip to go to the SUNSCAPE in Ixtapa the first week of April. I searched and reviewed the hotel and didn't find anything alarming with the SUNSCAPE so we reserved a week in the upgraded Sunclub. We were at the hotel 3 nights when we decided we needed to leave the hotel, pronto. We called first thing in the morning, and thankfully, CLUB MED was not fully booked and by 9:50 am we had checked out of the SUNSCAPE and by 10 am we had checked into the Club MED Ixtapa in a family suite room (Room 5016).
We have been traveling for 20 years to AI hotels, with and without kids.
Now, with our 7-year-old, very active boy and extremely picky eating boy, we have high expectations for our resorts. The Club Med did not disappoint.
In addition to the Buffet and Beach Bar, the hotel only has 1 restaurant, which is not open every night and only offers select reservations made the same day. This is probably one of my only negatives and to be honest, didn't really bother me, as I would much rather leisurely get to the buffet for dinner and spend all the time possible in the water and lounging on the beach. Additionally, the hotel also offers theme nights, we were there for the white night dinner, which was so fun! They offer these all hotel events, which really make it not necessary to also have multiple restaurants every night!
The buffet had many wonderful healthy options for all meals. Lunch and Dinner you could always find, grilled chicken, steak, fish, burgers, hotdogs, etc. Real pizza (my son's fav) pasta, salads, bread, wonderful desserts, and ice cream--just to name a few items.
My son went back and forth from the mini club and back to hang with us. We loved our experience with Isra, he was wonderful and my son really took to him while there. Upon checkout when we were just about to get in the taxi, he even ran up to say goodbye. (when has a kid's club staff ever done that?) That experience really solidified our experience and proved that the Club Med is a step above the rest.
Mini Club is wonderful and divided by age--so my 7yr old was not with 4-year-old kids--that is a huge plus. His favorite things were Archery and playing Soccer on the huge soccer field and going to the beach. Again, what resort has a full-sized soccer field? They also have basketball and tennis, which we didn't have time to do, but if we get the opportunity to go back, will spend time participating.
The beach is beautiful, small waves, ample for boogie boarding and watersports. The water was perfect for our visit in April. Nice beach chairs and beds, plenty of shade. We didn't spend any time at the pool, as we are much more ocean people. However, the pool looked lovely and had wonderful chairs and beds as well. While we were there, the hotel was not fully booked and we had no trouble finding a lounger.
On the beach, there are vendors who offer ridiculously inexpensive massages, but at the time we were there the spa was offering BOGO massages so my husband and I took advantage of that promotion. Don't miss this spa! It's magical. It's second to our spa experience while on the MSC cruise line (we do lots of spa services both at home and on vacay)
The rooms were nice and clean, the beds comfortable. We really enjoyed being in the Iguana building.
All in all, it was a great trip! We were sad, that we didn't originally book this resort and took a chance on the Sunscape--we truly didn't start our vacation until we stepped foot at CLUB MED IXTAPA.
Thanks for a wondeful vacation! We will be back!

How do you spell amazing? C-L-U-B M-E-D. My first foray into an all-inclusive resort exceeded my expectations in every possible way and I highly recommend booking a visit ASAP. The key to the beautiful place is the staff. Their collective enthusiasm and passion really put my visit way over the top. In that vein, I have to give some well deserved shout outs: The amazing people on the flying trapeze: Rivers, Joy, Julio, Charly and Melanie, Annie the tennis pro, Vux the fitness pro, Nardo the bartender pro, Bledsoe the teen club pro, Alejandra the nurse pro and Pepu too. They and honestly everyone there really make this an incredibly fun place for parents and children. Other than the amazing staff, I would highlight that all you do at Club Med is whatever you want to do. Not what you need to do, not what you have to do, just what you want to do. It's freaking incredible. The food is great, your kid(s) are in great hands and if you want them, the drinks flow like Niagara Falls. Stop reading this and book today. Hope to see you there!
The large beach area is only steps away from the pool. There are plenty of lounge chairs dotting the white sand and the ocean offers semi-calm waters on most days.
There are two large pools at this Club Med, plus additional pools at the Kids' Club. There is a family pool, where loud music and activities are always taking place and an adults-only pool. A kiddie pool with slides and spray fountains can be found just outside the Kids' Club.
Parents are welcome to leave their children with the supervised staff for full or half days. Children 8 years old and older can arrive at the kids' club by themselves, but younger kids need to be dropped off by mom or dad, who are asked not to leave the resort while children are at the kids' club.
For ages 4 to 23 months, this little club will have the youngest guests singing songs, listening to story time and playing in the baby gym area. Nap times also happen here. Baby Club is open with its supervised staff from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., six days a week.
For ages 2 and 3, toddlers at Petit Club will have a blast doing arts and crafts, playing dress up and board games, playing on the playground and singing songs. A small pint-size pool can be found just outside the Petit Club and is ideally sized for toddlers. Nap times also happen here. Petit Club is open with its supervised staff form 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m., six days a week.
For ages 4 to 10, kids can enjoy sports, arts and crafts and cooking classes. A kiddie pool sits outside the Mini Club and offers slides and spray water fountains for the kids to splash in. Mini Club is open with its supervised staff from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m. every day.
For ages 11 to 17, teens can come and go as they please at this club. Teens can enjoy sports activities, trapeze or archery class, billards tables, volleyball, fooseball, kayaking, movies, video games and much more.
Recreation and Sports Schools
Ping Pong, foosball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, paddleboarding and kayaking are all available and included in your rate. Plus, archery school, circus activites and flying trapeze classes are included. Both kids and adults can take a break from the beach and learn to fly through the air or shoot an arrow. The morning classes are offered to children and afternoon classes are offered to adults.
There is a live performance every evening in the open-air theater. Professtionals will perform, along with the staff and even your own children. The kids will rehearse all week for a special performance that is always filled to capacity with excited parents. Each kids' performance is per age group from baby to teen and families love it.
All meals and alcohol are included in the all-inclusive rate. Premium alcohol options are available as an upgrade. Highchairs are easily accessible at the restaurants.
The main restaurant features an expansive, multi-station buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are numerous areas to sit (the kids' club has its own dining area for lunch) and tables can accommodate up to eight people. For families with young children, the Baby Zone features jarred baby food, milk and formula for the youngest of guests.
The Luna Azul
This open-air, Mexican restaurant is open for dinner only on select days. A reservation is required.
This beach bar is located steps away from the sand and offers an a la carte menu for lunch or dinner.
This kids-only restaurant is found just next door to the Mini Club. For ages 2 to 10, kids will love to enjoy lunch in this kid-size restaurant. Kids' cooking classes take place here, too. While attending one of the kids' clubs, children will eat lunch at Sirena, as a group at El Encando, or parents are welcome to pick up a child to have lunch together as well.

The Art of Smart Timing
Winter is the busiest season at this tropical hotel, but truly, it is always busy here. Most people are visiting from the December through April. January, February and March are the busiest with travelers from the United States, Europe and Canada.
The Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo Internaitonal Airport is about 30 minutes away from this hotel and an airport shuttle can be provided by the hotel.
This Club Med, while expansive, is considered a "smaller" Club Med resort. The property is easily walkable and there is no need to pack the stroller because the hotel is happy to provide one.
For Mom and Dad
Spa services are not included in the all inclusive rate and are an additional cost.
